IndianaWiki is a State Wiki about the U.S. state Indiana. It contains information on a statewide level the same way that a City Wiki would contain all information about a city. It allows anyone visiting the site to make changes and additions to the articles. While allowing anyone to change articles might seem like a bad idea, the majority of people using the wiki care about the quality of its content. For a good example of wiki technology, check out Wikipedia, which is an extensive online encyclopedia maintained by people around the world. However, where Wikipedia is mostly about global subjects, IndianaWiki covers only information about and related to Indiana.

Information should be limited to things that are statewide. For instance, a page about Indiana License Plate Numbers would go here, but a page on the Monroe County License Branch in Bloomington would be better to go on a city wiki like Bloomingpedia.

IndianaWiki was started by Mark Krenz on March 31st, 2006 after linking to statewide information from Bloomingpedia was demanded. It was obvious that there was information that people editing Bloomingpedia wanted to add to a localized resource, but the subject was more statewide than specific to Bloomington. And so, IndianaWiki was born.

As far as we know, IndianaWiki is the first "State Wiki" on the Internet. If you find another one, please let us know by adding a command on this article's Talk Page.
